Wondering how to clean your white canvas shoes? This method is easy, and you probably already have most of the ingredients in your house!
When I bought my white canvas shoes they sat in my closet for months. It’s intimidating to wear white when you are surrounded by little people who constantly step on your feet.
But I wanted to jump on the sneaker trend since it’s so mom-friendly. So when I bought my white canvas sneakers and hoped I’d be brave enough to wear them.
These low-profile white sneakers are incredibly versatile —versatile enough to dress down a skirt, dress, or pair of jeans.
But if you’re like me, you might be discouraged from wearing them when they start looking dingy and dirty. (So embarrassing!) Once that happens, fewer outfit options!
To get the most use out of your closet (so you don’t throw them into a clothing swap!), it’s important to keep your pieces in good condition. Washing clothing according to instructions and cleaning up any spots gets the most bang for your buck.
Here’s the method for how to clean white canvas shoes so you can wear them with confidence.
Note: This won’t make them absolutely perfectly white again. BUT it’s much better than having brown shoes that used to be white.

Equipment
- old toothbrush
Materials
- 1 tbsp baking soda
- 1/2 tbsp water
- 1/2 tbsp hydrogen peroxide
Instructions
- Combine the baking soda, water, and hydrogen peroxide in a small bowl.
- Use the toothbrush to scrub the mixture on the shoes. It will leave a paste on the shoes.
- Leave the shoes out to dry in the sun for 3-4 hours.
- Clap the bottoms together to loosen the dried paste and use a towel to wipe off the remainder of the paste.
I know that you posted this a couple of years ago, but I have a quick question. Do you use a wet/damp towel or dry when wiping off the dry paste? Thanks!
Hey Michelle, I used a dry cloth when wiping. I also clap the heels together to get more of the paste off. I hope this helps!
Can u repeat the process if dirt persist?
Hi Kait, I’ve done it multiple times because they never stay clean. It’s not going to be perfect but way better than having dirty shoes.
I used your recipe for cleaning my white Ked shoes. Thank you.
