Have you ever wondered how other people are able to keep their house clean? It comes down to having a set of habits and routines that turn out to be no big deal if done often. The lack of using these cleaning routines could be the reason why your house is never clean.
Here are 3 reasons why your house is never clean:
Reason 01. You don’t have a set time to do weekly chores
I don’t think anyone wants to mop floors or scrub a toilet, but it has to be done. Instead of procrastinating, be methodological. Set a day for doing each undesirable task, or choose one day to do most of it.
I prefer to do the big weekly chores in one evening and smaller tasks for maintaining a clean home throughout the rest of the week. It’s what works best for me, and I set aside the time to do it. You may not have time in your schedule to dedicate an evening to clean. Instead, do one chore per day.
Some of my chore days are based on Ma Ingalls’ plan for each week in The Little House in the Big Woods:
You can certainly adopt this type of mentality for your week. It’s simple, and we could all use a little more simplicity in our lives.
Reason 02. You aren’t doing chores on a daily basis
You can do a big chore each day of the week to keep your home clean; however, there are smaller daily tasks you must do each day to keep your home tidy. Create a system for getting these tasks done by making them part of your morning and evening routines.
For example, each morning you can start by making your bed, emptying the dishwasher, and starting a load of laundry. In the evening, clean up the dishes and start the dishwasher. Have everyone put away the items they used throughout the day.
Once you make daily cleaning part of your normal routine, your home will be so much tidier.
Reason 03. You don’t clean things up right away
You’re too busy to dedicate hours to cleaning up a mess from 3 days ago. Instead of putting it off, clean up messes as they happen. It will save you time and agony in the long run.
If your kid gets rice Krispie cereal all over the floor, vacuum them up right after she’s finished eating.
When there are toys all over the living room, teach your kids to pick them up before getting out anymore.
These all sound like annoying little things to do each day; however, I’d rather spend just a few minutes cleaning a little mess than spending an hour trying to unstick food from 3-day-old dishes (gross!).
These are 3 reasons why your house is never clean. The good news? You can change your habits!
