What’s holding you back from organizing your house? Are you feeling overwhelmed and unsure where to start? Because if you are, that’s exactly where Keelin was back in May before she organized her house with Virtual Organizing Plan. Now, after months of living in her new house, she’s finally had the confidence to invite friends over. She’s even shown them the before pictures of her house!
But let’s go back to the beginning.
Over the last couple months, I’ve been working on creating a service that would fit exactly what you told me you need. And I’m pretty sure I nailed it.
I worked with my friend Keelin to get this service exactly right, and I’m SO excited to share her journey with you! Her stories about hosting friends at her house and not feeling overwhelmed anymore makes me so happy. I feel like I’m floating 🙂
Hear Keelin’s story about how she was able to bring peace to her home using a DIY Virtual Organizing Plan from Rooms Need Love.
Meet Keelin
Keelin’s originally from my hometown but she and her husband, Andrew, moved to the Fort Worth area a couple years ago. They have two adorable kids and another on the way. Back in January they bought their first house (yay!), where they’ve added on more pets and lots of houseplants 🙂 .
Keelin says, “I was so excited to have play dates and host different things. But months [after living here], I never hosted anything because I was so overwhelmed. I just felt like, ‘My house isn’t ready.’”
So many areas in her home were disorganized. Things didn’t have proper function or places to go, and Keelin didn’t know where to even start.
The plan
To create a personalized DIY Virtual Organizing Plan for Keelin, I had her do a couple things:
First she filled out a Pre-Work Assessment to first understand her organizing style. The goal was to make the new habits she needed to sustain the organization really stick.
Then she figured out 5 spaces that needed the most help with organizing. “I only really thought about one space,” she says, “but coming up with 5 spaces really helped make the organization flow throughout the whole house.”
Next, she took a video of her entire house and explained the disorganization situation in each room.
Using the assessment and the video, I was able to come into her space in what she describes as “a comfortable and non-judgmental way …meeting me where I’m at and figuring out what I need and not just having a generic plan. It was very personal.”
We met up so I could explain the steps in her plan, and recommend easy habits she could use to keep things organized.
Taking action
Now it was up to Keelin to get it done. And, Oh. My. Gosh. Did she get it DONE!
On the day her plan was delivered, she had the “Dump Zone” cleared off in 10 minutes!
Andrew also started getting really into it. (The bug is catching, they say.) Keelin messaged me when he started organizing the office because she yelled at him to “STOP! I need to get a before picture!”
Since Keelin had a minimal budget …ok, no budget at all, we stuck with utilizing what she already had. It was her decision if she wanted to buy any of the organizers I recommended. She already had these totes for her kids’ clothes organizing project, keeping the costs down so they can invest in buying furniture for the office.
Keelin’s favorite part of the whole process was at the end of every project. A couple projects (like the kids’ toys and the kids’ clothes) were daunting before getting started. But once she figured out what she wanted to keep, going through everything wasn’t hard –it was just part of the process.
“Right at the end when you feel done and accomplished, it’s really freeing …like a weight has been lifted. I think that was the most rewarding part.”
The results!!!
A couple weeks and 5 spaces later, Keelin hosted a play date and a little engagement party!
For the play date, she says, “I actually felt really confident. It was really exciting for me because even though these people hadn’t seen my house before, I was excited to share my space with them. I even showed a couple of them the before and after pictures! It’s definitely made a difference in how I feel about bringing people into my space.”
“We had an engagement dinner celebration for my sister,” she went on, “I was kinda shocked at myself because I was like, ‘I have to clean’ the night before. But it wasn’t a whirlwind, running through my house trying to clean everything. It was just everyday things I’ve been doing now since going through this process. It wasn’t overwhelming.”
Now that she’s done it, she feels like she can take the tools she’s learned and repeat the process in any space in her home.
Would she recommend the DIY Virtual Organizing Plans?
“Absolutely,” she says. “I really appreciated that [Jena] was conscientious of sticking to my budget. This was my first experience with a Professional Organizer, and I’m so impressed by how it was so personal and gave me the tools to maintain my home going forward.”

So there you have it! I’m so impressed with Keelin’s journey. I love seeing her before and after pictures. But the biggest change of all is in her confidence in having people over and in her ability to maintain the organization.
