Switching to a paleo diet was really hard. Really hard. Now it’s just part of our daily life but I wouldn’t have done it if there wasn’t a really good reason to do it. I’ll start with the weekly meal plan, but since I haven’t said anything about it in this series, I’m telling you the truth about why we eat paleo.
Week 6 Meal Plan
(We’re getting into repeats by request of the family)
Breakfast
Smokey Bacon Sweet Potato Hash and Eggs from Joyful Healthy Eats
Lunch
One Pan Broccoli Cashew Chicken from Recipes to Nourish
Dinner
Sausage Tomato Basil Paleo Pizza from Paleo Running Momma (including her pizza crust recipe).
Crispy One-Pan Paleo Bacon Wrapped Chicken from Paleo Running Momma
Tomato Basil Turkey Meatloaf from Little Bits Of
Hot Dogs (by request of the child) – we use polish dogs and Udis gluten-free buns.
Grilled Honey Lime Cilantro Chicken from the Recipe Critic (sub soy sauce with coconut aminos)
Grilled California Avocado Chicken from the Recipe Critic (use rBST free mozzarella)
There’s a reason why we try to comply with a paleo diet.
I’ve talked about meal planning, and how to shop …all that stuff. But I wouldn’t have figured all this out if it hadn’t been our switch to paleo.
So here’s the reason why.
For nearly four years now, we’ve been trying to naturally conceive a baby. After a year without achieving pregnancy, we started learning Creighton model charting, which is a way to chart the menstrual cycle when practicing NFP (Natural Family Planning). A couple months after that, we started seeing a NaPro doctor.
We’ve done so many things during this treatment plan and discovered a lot of things. Leaving certain foods out of our diets is just one of the many things we’ve been doing. It doesn’t seem like it would work, but a friend of mine switched to paleo a couple months ago, and after almost a year of TTC, she’s now pregnant.
At first changing our diet seemed like the hardest thing to do. But there’ve been a lot of other really hard things since then, such as making sure to go get my blood drawn on the right day or taking hormone medications on the right day. Scheduling surgery for myself was the worst. It got called off a couple weeks before because Matthew’s test results came back poorly. Since then he’s had surgery, and so far the results are looking good.
For so long, infertility has consumed our lives. It was always the thing front of mind, where the pain and the longing was always present.
The longing is still there, but I’ve become numb to the pain. There are moments when it gets called back …sometimes when I hear about so and so being pregnant or hearing about babies that no one wants. There are days where I’ll just hide away until it goes away because I don’t want to hurt anyone else with the pain I feel.
We are so blessed to have Juliana. One of our doctors proclaimed that she is a miracle, because as far as he could see, she shouldn’t have happened.
There are so many other couples out there on the same journey as us, but they’re still waiting for their first miracle.
If you’re reading this, here’s what I’m asking: if you know a couple going through infertility, or you’re not sure if they are, please just love them. Pray for them. Tell them they don’t have to do this alone. Our community has been here with us, and I can’t put into words how much it’s helped us all these years.
If you’re going through this journey too, I’m praying for you. Don’t go through it alone. I will talk with you and pray for you if you just reach out.
God has perfect timing. His plans are better than mine.
Jesus, I trust in you.

Just came across this as I am struggling with secondary infertility, also seeing a NaPro doc AND Paleo has been recommended for me. I hope since this post that you have conceived! Thank you for posting this!

Hi Megan, thanks for the note. We haven’t conceived yet but we’re trusting in God’s timing. You’ll be in my prayers, friend!
