This is the first year we’re officially doing a full school year, and I’m trying to think of all the ways we need to get ready. True, my daughter’s only doing preschool two days a week for only a couple hours. But we still have to get up early, have school appropriate clothes, have somewhere to put all those pictures and assignments coming home, and somehow remember all the events.
We’re getting into the busy season of school age children (#imnotcrying).
This is a list of the things I’m doing to prep for the new school year.
Mark the calendars
Well, for me, this is mark my planner. There’s already school events, and school hasn’t even started. I forgot events last year because I didn’t write them down. Doh.
I got the preschool’s academic calendar emailed to me last week, so I’ve marked all the events in my planner …even though I don’t know what some of them mean. (What the heck are Pony Pictures?)
The 2019-2020 academic planners are still fresh, if you’re into them. The planner I use is from Day Designer, which you can check out here …and the 2020 full year planner will be released soon! (Pssst …they have free printable pages so you can try before you buy.)
School Clothes
My child has grown like a weed this summer (again, #imnotcrying). I ordered a couple new dresses for school and pulled out a few clothes that don’t fit her anymore. I still need to go through her closet to sort out what no longer fits so she has an up-to-date wardrobe to choose from. Plus, I need to figure out what we’re keeping as hopefully future hand-me-downs.
Office Declutter
All those lovely art projects and first week of school assignments –yeah, they’re going to end up in my office. So I’m making sure everything’s put in place and that we don’t have extra things lying around. Because the influx is coming!
Paper Organizing
To be perfectly honest, I’ve still got to figure out my system for school papers. Last year I stacked artwork on top of her memory box and went through it with her this summer. It probably doesn’t need to get more sophisticated than that.
The biggest thing is to have a specific, permanent place for school papers to go when they come home, and a plan for paring it down in the near future.
Evening routine
The point of an evening routine is to set yourself up for success the next day. We get the house tidied up, pick out clothes for the morning, put shoes by the garage door, and set anything that needs to go to school on the counter near the door. This saves us so much time, especially on those mornings when we’re sleepy.
…
These back-to-school organizing projects aren’t too bad. If you have some catching up to do on organizing kids’ clothes, paring down school work, or decluttering the office, check out the posts linked here:
