Every time we have guests over, they’re surprised by the marble counters in our hallway. I mean, it seems pretty snazzy to have a marble counter as your drop zone. And it matches our actual quartzite kitchen counters pretty well.
But.
This counter is totally faux.
When we first moved in we had the entire house painted, and including this hallway cabinet. The problem was every time we set something down on counter it would get stuck to the paint.
And, it just didn’t look that great.
So I came up with a DIY so easy even I can do it. (Seriously, I’m no DIY-er, so if I can do it, you definitely can do it.)
Easy, DIY Faux Marble Counter
All you need is marble contact paper (this is the one I used), a box cutter, and a straight edge, like a ruler.
Simply line up your contact paper and peel the sticky end. Slide your straight edge over the top of the contact paper to remove air bubbles and lines. Then use the box cutter to trim any edges.
It takes a little patience to get the precision, but it’s so dang easy!
This won’t last forever, especially since this counter doubles as a library and a daily drop zone. But it keeps it in better condition than if we left the painted counter.
Besides, it does look impressive when you see it.
As a natural drop zone in our house, this counter collects clutter daily. Learn how I organize it in under 15 minutes every day in this post here.
