Have you ever heard Dave Ramsey talk about having gazelle-like intensity on your goals? He’s talking about staying so incredibly focused on your goals that you’re thinking about them every single day and taking steps toward them every single day. But so many of us are so busy and trying to silence all the noise that it’s hard to have that focus in order to reach your goals.
I’ve been working hard this year to achieve my goals. And although I haven’t reached many of them, the ones I have reached, I’m so incredibly proud.
Whether you have a goal to pay off debt, organize your house, or build a business, here are things I’ve done that have helped me, and I believe they can help you reach your goals too.
I wrote intentional goals
I spent hours and hours deciphering and writing down my goals for the year. Using Powersheets from Cultivate What Matters made a huge difference in doing this.
I love that I can always reflect back on my goals since it’s all in one place. It’s been good to see my progress and see what’s really mattered to me throughout the year. The goals that were the most important took over every single month.
I got serious about using a planner
Planners are a tricky thing. They’re so fun to buy, but unless they work to your specific needs, they can be a waste of money. When you find the right one, and use it, they can change your life.
2023 Update: I’ve been using the Blessed Is She Liturgical Planner and it’s my favorite planner yet! I can work through my entire weekly planning process in this one planner!
My goals & plans are visible daily
I keep my monthly Tending List from my Powersheets and my planner open on my desk at all times. Yes, the covers are pretty, but they do me no good unless I open them up.
I can see my goals and align my top priorities with them in my planner.
These things only work if you use them. And for me, putting skin in the game guarantees I’ll use them.
Exercise consistently
This sounds really out there but exercise has done wonders for me. It gives me more energy and clarity. It’s like being able to pull out a superpower to focus.
And yes, it takes a bit of work to make it part of the routine. As I said before, putting skin in the game helps me to actually do it, so I subscribe to the BBG app so I’ll actually do it.
Exercise is now a non-negotiable.
Set routines
Along the same lines of making exercise a routine, I’ve consciously put together easy systems and routines to keep my house running on automation so I have time to focus on my goals.
…
It’s never too late to start on your goals. Using these hacks —writing good goals, planning my days well, keeping these things within sight, exercising, and setting routines —have made all the difference in my level of focus and my ability to make progress.
