How to organize your home like a pro organizer? To tell you the truth, it’s not all about finding the perfect basket or arranging things in rainbow order (although that is the fun part). There’s a whole lot more process involved.
Since it’s not easy to get started or to even finish organizing, it’s best to tackle organizing with some sort of plan.
Here’s a little sneak peek into my organizing framework so you can learn how to organize your home like a pro organizer.
Start with the goal
It’s hard to stay motivated to finish a job when you don’t know where you’re headed. One of the first things to do with any organizing project is to have some idea about what you want the end product to look like.
I guide my clients through this process, but one way to do this on your own is to create a Pinterest board with images of what you might want a specific room to look like at the end. Save ideas for colors, furniture, and organizing products to really make the vision real.

Create guidelines
To make the decluttering part easier, I help my clients create guidelines for what they’ll keep by determining the function and purpose of the space. By doing this ahead of time, it makes the decluttering process easier and more clear.
Declutter
This is the part everyone dreads, but if you did the prep work, it’s not as bad as you think.
First, remove everything from the shelf, drawer, etc you’re organizing. Why? This will help you visualize the end product in the space and give you a chance to go through all the items to really pare down.
Then get start sorting by keep, toss, and donate. The only way to get over the fear of starting is to start.
I always warn my clients that looks worse before it gets better …that’s normal.
Once you’ve pared down, it’s time to put the items you’re keeping in permanent homes. This is so important for the next step.
Systematize
Now that everything has a home, it’s about keeping it up.
Put things back where they belong sooner rather than later. Practice this by using the One-Minute Rule.
Make decisions about what can and can’t stay in your home. Putting off these decisions will bring the clutter back into your home.
These are the basic steps to how to organize your home like a pro organizer: have a goal, create guidelines, declutter, and systematize. Although they’re very simple, they’re incredibly effective.
