Ready to make this year your most organized year yet? I’m not just talking about the house. One way to be more organized in the new year is to have all the little admin type tasks taken care of so you can spend time focusing on other things. I’m talking about having an organized life.
As much as I love having my house clean and tidy, knowing that all the other things –my calendar, budget, and planning –are all taken care of definitely bring me peace of mind.
There are a few things I started doing this year to help make my life more organized. And, oh my gosh, I have to tell you because it’s a game-changer.
There are 5 things on my list that you must do every week for an organized life.
Hammer out the To-Do List
On my to-do list is sort papers, file them, then take action on them.
Use this checklist to help you sort your papers –it will help you decide what to recycle, what to keep, and what needs taking action on.
Taking action means making phone calls, booking appointments, or taking care of those little items that seem to build up, all in one sitting. You could call it a Power Hour.
This whole system I’ve developed, called “CEO Day,” is detailed and included in my paper organizing guide, The Paper Hubs System.
Budget
If you’re not setting a budget each month, you should. It wasn’t until a couple of years ago when I was introduced to Dave Ramsey that I learned that you have to reset your budget every single month. And even though I know this, it’s still hard to do.
So I set aside time every week to look at my expenses. And each month, my husband and I try to put time on the calendar to sit down and do the monthly budget.
It seems like the hardest thing in the world to do but every time we do it, I’m so glad we did!
Meal Planning & Prep
It seems like such a big to-do to meal plan but it’s actually not once you get the hang of it. Doing it makes meal times so much easier.
I don’t buy foods that aren’t good for us (and that are really pricey) and I know what I’m making for dinner every night. We save money on breakfast and lunch since I meal prep those for the entire week.
I’ve written a few posts about our meal plans, that you can find here: Week 1, Week 2, Week 3, Week 4, Week 5, Week 6.
Planning
During our once-a-month budget meeting, my husband and I will go through our calendars and sync them. He likes using his Google Calendar app and I use my planner. It’s much better than finding out the day of that we were supposed to show up somewhere as a family.
I also use my planner to figure out my main projects for the week. Focusing on one top priority per day makes me feel much more accomplished. I have to figure out the top priority for the week first to guide me through planning the rest of the week.
Photo Organizing
You know that awful alert that comes up that says something like “Your iPhone is almost out of storage space”? Well, that happened to me a lot, and it was mostly because I had too many photos.
It always felt like such a chore to upload my pictures to my computer. Then I realized if I just did it every single week it wouldn’t be so bad.
And, go figure, I was right.
Now I upload my pictures to my computer and delete old ones off my phone every week.
I feel like a champion.
…
If you’re ready to have an organized life this year, definitely start doing these 5 things every single week. Start with just one thing for now and keep adding another piece on as it becomes more natural.
