Looking to simplify your cleaning routine and stop cleaning up ALL DAY LONG? Me too.
There are plenty of things I’d like to spend my time doing. But one thing I don’t want to spend a ton of time at is cleaning my house. So you can bet I’ve experimented to find the most efficient and effective way to keep my home clean and tidy.
Here are my most efficient tips for simplifying your cleaning routine.
Use an all-purpose cleaner
It takes too much time and energy to keep switching to different cleaners. Stick with a single all-purpose cleaner that works on every surface. My favorite is Thieves All-Purpose from Young Living. (It smells like Christmas …if you thought your cleaning supplies couldn’t “spark joy,” think again.)
Here’s how to make Thieves all-purpose.
Do a 10-Minute Tidy
I like to clean up my house in sprints, and I do that by using a 10-minute tidy. All the details about it are in this post, but basically, I’ll take a break every couple of hours or after meals to clean up as much as I can for 10 minutes.
I can’t focus very well when my house is messy, so this 10-minute tidy has definitely helped my productivity.
Batch your house cleaning
I’ll tidy up throughout the day but the bulk of the chores all happen on one day. I clean the floors, bathroom, kitchen, and surfaces all in one day per week. Here’s what it looks like:
Have daily cleaning tasks
There are some things you should do every day but there aren’t any cleaning police that will tell you you MUST do some things every single day. This is all personal preference. Here are some of the things I do every day:
- wash dishes
- pick up loose items
- make the beds
- sweep the kitchen floor
- wipe the kitchen counters
Batch laundry
I don’t like the idea of doing a load of laundry every day. I don’t want to do laundry every day. So I do it all in one day when all the laundry baskets are full. I don’t want to spend every day trying to remember if I moved the laundry to the dryer or not. I’d rather think about it one or two days a week.
You can learn about my laundry system here.
So what do you think? Pretty simple, right? Batching cleaning and laundry, committing to small, daily cleaning tasks, and paring down to one cleaner makes your cleaning routine as simple as can be!
