Last week I hosted the first bonus planning/coworking call for my students inside the Essential Home Organizing Blueprint. What did we work on? A little routine I created called CEO Day, which keeps my life and business organized.
This is the time of the week when I take care of all the little to-dos that add up throughout the week. I can go into the weekend knowing that I’ve got everything taken care of.
After years of having a stack of paper on my desk and tons of little things that I would never “get to,” I came up with this system.
Things like:
- Cleaning out my inbox.
- Making appointments.
- Shredding junk mail.
- Filing papers.
- And so much more.
These are all things that pile up (some literally) when I leave them for too long. And not only that, it gets stressful realizing last minute that I forgot to take care of something because it’s in the to-do pile.
So I created intentional time to take care of those things every single Friday.
Here are 4 things I do every Friday to stay organized in life (and business).
CEO Report
This is actually the tool that instigated this whole routine. Reina Pomeroy has a CEO Report (that’s a freebie on her website) where she reviews the week in one place. You can set this up for business and life depending on what you want to review.
It’s a good way to close out the week to see what you accomplished. Plus, you can look at it at the end of each quarter and each year to review.
Sort my Actionable Paper Hub
Part of my paper organizing system is the Actionable Paper Hub where I keep all the incoming papers that need, er, action taken on them.
I sort, shred, and file the papers. Plus, I pay bills, make appointments, and do whatever else I need to do with those papers.
Clear the inbox
Do I get to inbox zero? Nope. But I delete all the irrelevant emails and file away the emails I want to keep. I use my inbox as a digital Actionable Paper Hub, which is why these two tasks go so well together.
Check my accounts
Balancing the checkbook? Mm, that doesn’t happen so much anymore. It’s more about checking my accounts to see what the transactions were and making sure all the bills I have teed up for autopay were actually paid.
I’ve caught fraudulent charges in the past, so I keep an eye on our accounts every single week.
…
Those are the 4 things I do every Friday to keep life organized. This routine takes less than an hour and it gives the end of the week a buttoned-up kind of feel.
