Sometimes I want someone to tell me exactly what to do to help me get started. This post is something the RNL community is constantly asking for, and so that’s what I’m delivering today —this is a plan to declutter your home this year.
Typically, I don’t like these types of plans because doing them doesn’t guarantee that your home will stay organized. However, if one of your PowerSheets goals is to declutter your home, then I believe you can effectively use this plan!
The key to setting goals is to break them into smaller, bite-sized pieces, which is what this plan aims to do. Instead of pressuring yourself to do it all in January, declutter one space or category each month so you don’t get burnt out and never finish decluttering.
Yes, 12 months is a long time, but I believe that great homes take time. Organizing isn’t a one-and-done thing …sometimes you have to change things around several times in order for it to work. Giving yourself a month to work on one area will give you space and freedom to experiment and adjust.
Enough said …let’s dig into the plan.

December – Life
- Write down intentions for the next 90 days
- Begin a weekly planning practice
- Set aside time every week to budget, plan, and take care of to-dos
Remember, decluttering is only one step in staying organized. Paring down eliminates the number of items you deal with daily, but staying organizing depends on your rhythms and habits.
Here’s what I recommend to make this plan successful: write down “declutter the house” as a goal and use the Yearly Overview pages in the PowerSheets to break it into attainable goals.
