I’ve talked a lot about cleaning routines but I haven’t talked much about which cleaning supplies I use around my house. I have a simple cleaning routine, so it follows that I don’t use a ton of cleaning supplies.
You’ll find a mixture of natural cleaners and traditional cleaners on my list. I go with what I think makes my house feel cleanest, and that means using chemical cleaners in certain places. Everything in moderation, right?
Since I always find posts on what other people do or use helpful, I’m sharing a list of cleaning supplies for regular and seasonal cleaning around the house.
Everywhere Cleaning Supplies
- YL Thieves Household Cleaner
- I use Thieves All-Purpose Cleaner (see recipe below) on everything for my weekly cleaning. Although it might be better to use different cleaner recipes, I don’t want to store a ton of bottles.
- Distilled water
- Amber Spray Bottles
- Microfiber cloths
- For mirrors and surfaces. I haven’t tested many microfiber cloths, I think any will do.
- Shark Navigator Vacuum
- Shark Steam Mop (+ extra mop covers)
- I add a capful of Thieves Household Cleaner to my tank to make my floors extra clean. But NOTE: do this at your own risk. I haven’t been doing this for very long and I don’t know how it will affect the mop long-term.
- Kirkland Surface Wipes
- Clorox Clean-Up
- Sometimes things happen in your house where you want all the germs DEAD. So, I keep these surface wipes and Clorox for those special times.
Kitchen Cleaning Supplies
- Dawn Dish Soap
- Flour Sack Dish Towels
- Once these towels don’t look so good or feel as soft, I retire them as dish rags for drying produce or other cleaning purposes.
- Kitchen Gloves
- Finish Dishwasher Pods
- Olive oil (for polishing stainless steel)
- YL Thieves All-Purpose Cleaner
- YL Thieves Fruit & Veggie Wash
- Scotch Brite sponges
- Bar Keeper’s Friend (for scratches in the sink)
- Comet (everything in moderation)
Bathroom Cleaning Supplies
- YL Thieves Hand Soap
- YL Thieves All-Purpose Spray (recipe below)
- Clorox Disposable Toilet Wands
- Homemade Shower Cleaner (50% distilled white vinegar, 50% Dawn dish saop)
- Electric Spin Scrubber
Laundry
- YL Thieves Laundry Soap (How to dilute it)
- Dryer balls (from Trader Joe’s)
- OxiClean
- Distilled White Vinegar
- This stuff is used in various cleaning recipes but my current favorite use is to add it to the softener cup in my washer.
Specialty Cleaning Supplies
That’s a complete list of cleaning supplies I use around my home. As I said, I end up using a combination of cleaners because that’s what makes my house feel most comfortably clean.
If you’re feeling pressured to switch everything to natural cleaners, this is a reminder that there are no cleaning police. No one is going to come into your home and demand that you stop using bleach. You’re free to choose what’s right for your family.
