You’ve decided to start a Pro Organizing. Congrats! What do you need next? Clients, of course! What exactly do you need for marketing your Pro Organizing business?
I’m breaking down the top 3 must-haves for marketing your Pro Organizing business.
What you do & who you serve
The biggest, most important work you can do is to figure out what you do and who you serve …or as my favorite business mentor says, your “Onlyness Factor.”
Do this by uncovering your strengths and what types of services you want to provide. Most importantly, decide who you want to serve and actually talk to them!
Find out your ideal client’s biggest problems and desires and her idea of the perfect solution. How do you find out? Create a survey and reach out in Facebook groups.
For example, when you sign up to get my freebie, you’re redirected to a page that asks you to take a survey (you can see it here). I’ve learned a lot about who I’m attracting and who I want to serve by doing this.
I’ve also asked in Facebook groups for anyone fitting my ideal client description to do a 10-15 minute call with me so I can pick their brain and make sure my offer fits the market.
Once this work is done, keep it all recorded in a brand messaging guide to help you write your website and marketing copy.
To go in-depth on doing all this, I highly recommend Copywriting for Creatives from Ashlyn Writes. I come back to this course all the time!
Content hub (website)
You could put all the important info about your business on Instagram or Facebook. But if you do that, you’re building your business on borrowed ground. Your social media accounts can disappear in an instant. And not only that, it’s much harder for potential clients to figure out what you do and who you serve.
To see it from a client’s perspective, have you ever tried to find a service on Instagram? I search for photographers for our family photos by searching hashtags. Unfortunately, many photographers don’t have a website linked or their websites are completely out of date. As a result, I don’t work with them.
Your website should be the hub and home base of everything your client wants to know about working with you. Your website should include a homepage, about page, services page, and contact page (and a place to drop their email to stay in touch with you!). It’s where they come into contact with your world and determine if you’d be a good fit to work with them.
If you plan on creating educational content, I recommend building a website using WordPress.org. (I recommend consistently publishing content because it helps with SEO!) WordPress.org sites can be customized, and the interface is especially good if you plan on creating content. WordPress.org does require a bit more money for domains, registration, and hosting. However, I think the extra cost is worth it to have a site that is exactly you.
Here’s an article comparing WordPress and Squarespace.
Marketing plan
Although you shouldn’t build your business on borrowed ground, social media is a great way to get the word out about your business. However, there are so many platforms out there, it’s hard to choose which ones to use!
The best thing to do is to choose one platform to focus on, especially because social media is constantly changing. Become a master of one. Then you can learn about others.
My main focus was Pinterest when I first started. It was the one platform I understood best, so it was the best place to start. The part I like best now is that I can automate so much of my Pinterest marketing.
Using Tailwind to schedule pins made a huge difference in how much time I spend on the app. Not only can I schedule pins, but I can also quickly create pins inside of Tailwind and schedule them using Tailwind Create. I probably spend about 1 ½-2 hours per month doing hands-on marketing on Pinterest.
These are the top 3 must-haves for marketing your pro organizing business —or any business, really.
