The beginning of 2022 has been crazy for my family. My husband now has his own practice, so we’ve both been spending extra time there trying to get things in order. (My realm is, of course, getting the office space organized.) But all that extra time spent there means that keeping order at home could easily fall to pieces. Fortunately, I have tools (and systems) in place to keep my home organized even when we’re incredibly busy.
The main tasks around the home revolve around food preparation, laundry, cleaning and tidying, and keeping on top of appointments. Thankfully, with modern technology and conveniences, it’s easier to manage the home even when we’re short on time.
Here are 5 awesome tools to keep your home organized when you’re incredibly busy.
Meal Planning Tool
If I don’t have an official dinner on the table every evening, I’m a wreck. With that in mind, I make sure to have dinner planned —especially when I have to go to work.
Over the last few years, I developed an entire meal planning system (that you can find here). I plan all our meals a month ahead of time. Recently, I added a lesson on how to plan your meals for the years to come!
If you’re not ready to dive into a full meal planning system, I recommend at least creating a Meal Master List. Having a list of meals to choose from when it comes time to plan at least the night before saves a lot of time.
I know a lot of people like using HelloFresh or HomeChef, but I tend to take longer making dinner with new recipes. Tried and true recipes are much faster and easier on busy nights.
Planner
When life is as busy as it is for us right now, it’s essential that I have a place to write everything down. I can’t keep everything straight in my head, from appointments and lessons to parties and playdates, to things I need to research.
I’ve used the Day Designer Planner for several years now. I love that I’m able to write out specific appointments on one side and list out tasks on the other.

Laundry Delay Start
There are a lot of pros and cons to having a “fancy” washer and dryer. One of the pros is a “Delay Start” option.
On days when I have to head out early but still need to get a load of laundry done, I use the delay start. I only started using it in the last few months but it’s been such a time saver!
I can set the washer to begin running early in the morning. By the time I get up, it’s ready to be moved to the dryer. If I’m going to be away when the dryer finishes its cycle, I can set the “Wrinkle Guard” or “Wrinkle Prevent” to keep my clothes fresh.
The only thing left to do is fold it and put it away!
Nightly Reset
Successful mornings begin in the evening. For that reason, there are specific tasks I do every evening to make sure my home is set up for the next day. It’s stressful to wake up to a chaotic house, so the Nightly Reset helps us to avoid that.
Some things we do include picking up and putting away random items. I take tomorrow’s dinner out of the freezer to defrost. Depending on how early we’re heading out the door, we’ll pick out our outfits.

Kitchen Shut Down Routine
Since the kitchen is one of the busiest areas of my home, I take care to tidy it up each evening. It doesn’t matter what our schedule is, it’s guaranteed that we’ll be in there preparing meals for staying in or to go.
I want to make sure everything is ready to go when we need it. Dishes get washed to clear the sink, the dishwasher is set to run every evening, and dried dishes are put away so the counters are clear. If we’re running out the door the next morning, we need room to work!
The Kitchen Shut Down Tracker will be available later this month as a bonus for my brand-new organizing guide, “How To Organize Your Kitchen.”
Using these 5 tools will help you keep your home organized even while you’re incredibly busy. Implement these tools a little at a time to get things under control.
