This past week has been rough. My daughter and I have been stuck in the house with a summer cold. For that reason I find myself feeling very discontent with my house. Being cooped up for too long, I went about figuring out how to be happier with my home.
All these things, I tried, and they worked.
Here are 5 ways to be happier with your home.
Get off social media
I’ve been cooped up for so long that I’ve been doing a lot more scrolling than I’d like to do. I scroll through many home tours, and after a while, I start comparing my home to what I see online. Nothing breeds discontentment more than comparison.
Shut off the phone. Put it somewhere out of reach and do some of the following things in this post.

Write down what you like about your home
So often we focus on the things that we don’t like about our homes. Instead, write down what you do like about your home. This will shift your mentality from what you don’t have to how much you already have.

Clean your house
Sometimes all you need is a good cleaning to make your home feel fresh and new. When I feel like I can’t stand my house anymore, I clean it. Sometimes it’s as simple as washing the dishes or tidying up the homeschool room. Other times, cleaning the floors gives the house new life.
Cleaning doesn’t have to take long but it will go a long way.

Rearrange items in your home
Home can begin to feel stagnant if decor remains the same. Try moving decor to different places in your home. Rearrange a shelf. Put new things on the mantle. Swap pictures in frames. Having something new to look at will keep your home from becoming too stagnant and dull and boring. You don’t have to go out and buy anything new. Repurpose what you have to give new life to your space.
Get out in nature or bring nature in
Now that we’re feeling better my daughter and I have been able to go on walks. Moving our bodies and getting that fresh air in our lungs and getting some vitamin D changes our mentality. It’s refreshing for our souls to get out into nature and makes our homes feel less confining.
Bring nature home with you by picking flowers or greenery, cutting roses, or buying yourself some fresh flowers. Open the windows in the morning and evening when the weather’s cool to let the fresh air in.
Start feeling happier with your home by doing these 5 things. Try one, or all of them.
