I’m a big advocate of NOT cleaning something every single day. To me, breaking up the housework for each day of the week isn’t efficient or desirable —I don’t want to clean every day! Instead, I clean once a week. If that piques your interest, you’ll want this Batch Cleaning Day Checklist of 6 things you need to consistently clean your house once a week.
Here’s a Batch Cleaning Day Checklist with 6 things you need to consistently clean your house once a week.
But first …
Why batch clean?
- Focus: There’s no task switching —I won’t go from cleaning to getting distracted by other things on my list to get done. I have a couple of hours set aside only for cleaning. Once it’s done for the week, it’s done.
- Sanity: It drives me crazy to have some places clean and not others. I’d rather have it all clean at one time, as we head into the weekend.
- Efficiency: Using the checklist I’m about to share with you, I know I can finish cleaning my entire house in less than 2 hours.
In order to successfully set up a Batch Cleaning Day, let’s go over the 6 things you’ll need.
✔️ Cleaning Tasks
The first thing you need to set up a Batch Cleaning Day is a list of tasks you want to accomplish. Keep the jobs basic and minimal. Making too long of a list will make cleaning feel overwhelming and unmanageable. The point of batch cleaning is to make it feel automated & easy.
Everyone is different about what they need cleaned weekly, but here’s a basic list of what I do every week:
- Vacuum & mop all floors
- Clean bathrooms (mirrors, counters, sinks, tubs, showers)
- Clean kitchen (appliances)
- Dust furniture
- Wash & change sheets
✔️ Cleaning Supplies & Tools
Next, you’ll need supplies & tools on hand to actually do the cleaning. Again, keep supplies simple & minimal, with specialty tools to make cleaning easier.
The most basic cleaning supplies & tools are:
- All-purpose cleaner & spray bottles
- Microfiber cloths
- Vacuum (I love my Shark)
- Mop (again, I love my Shark)
- Scrubbing brush (this one changed my life!)

✔️ Zones
Before diving into cleaning, divide your home into different zones to tackle piece by piece. By cleaning one zone at a time, the task doesn’t feel as overwhelming. Plus, it feels good to accomplish a little bit at a time to check off!
Create zones around your home by room, floor, half, or any other way you please.
✔️ Order of Operations
Did you know there’s an order in the cleaning process? Work from the top down so that everything gets cleaned up. In other words, the floors come last.
Begin with cleaning ceiling fans, wall art & frames, light fixtures, or anything near the ceiling. Then dust & wipe surfaces (make sure items are put away to make the job easier!). Finally, vacuum & mop.
✔️ Delegate
Depending on the size of your home and the members of your family, Batch Cleaning can go faster if you delegate tasks or zones to different family members.
Delegate tasks based on age and ability, such as picking up toys, dusting, vacuuming, and so on. (Here’s a great Pin that breaks down tasks by age.)
If delegating zones, assign older family members to clean entire zones, or pair up an older child with a younger child to work on a zone together.

✔️ Cleaning Day
Finally, the last thing you need is a consistent day for Bath Cleaning! This should be a day of the week when you have a couple of hours to dedicate to cleaning and on a day that makes sense to start with a clean house.
For example, some might clean on a Monday to get the house spic & span after busy weekends. Others may kick off a weekend by cleaning at the end of the week.
No matter which day you choose, the most essential action is to schedule your Batch Cleaning Day every week. If you’re a paper & pen kind of person, the Day Designer Daily Planner works really well because you can schedule by the hour & list the tasks you need to do all on the same planning page. Scheduling your Batch Cleaning in your planner & checking it off will help you as you build the habit. Eventually, your week won’t feel normal without it!
Checking off the list
Can you check off all 6 of these things? Not only will they help you set up a Batch Cleaning Day but the day will go faster & easier if you’ve done the prep work!
